An Honest Review of the Calming Blankets Silk Eye Mask.
Few things about me: I put a good night’s sleep, over anything else and I’m very particular about my bedding and the sleep environment. I sleep on bamboo sheets because they don’t make me sleep hot, and I have a silk pillowcase because it doesn’t abrasively rub against the skin, and the list goes on.
I also can’t sleep with the slightest light falling on my face. Over the years, I’ve tried several different eye masks, but they’ve all fallen short in one way or another. From cheap ones that don’t block out the light to others that are too heavy or snug, I’ve just never found the perfect eye mask.
Calming Blankets Silk Eye Mask - Yes, It's Amazing
I had given up on finding a good sleep mask until our editor (thanks, James!) asked me to review a Calming blankets silk sleep mask. A hefty price tag of $50 had me sceptical but also intrigued. I knew about the brand calming blankets but I wasn’t sure if it would be different from all the other masks I had tried.
Why Do I Love It?
I’m happy to report that this eye mask is everything I’ve ever wanted in a sleep mask and more. For starters, it feels buttery smooth against the skin and gives you a cool and calming sensation. The mask is lightweight, breathable, extremely comfortable to wear and doesn’t make my face sweaty as some other masks do. The company claims the eye mask is made 100% natural 6A Grade Mulberry Silk, one of the better quality silks.
Some reports claim that silks masks have anti-wrinkle properties and help reduce fine lines, but I’m not too sure about that. Find me in 5 years, and I’ll let you know!
For those who suffer from allergies or have sensitive skin, silks masks, in general, are a better option than cotton masks. I can attest to the fact that it effectively blocks out the light and leaves you in a pitch-black slumber zone. I will say that the mask doesn’t move around while you sleep, which is a huge plus. And when I wake up, my eyes feel well-rested and not puffy.
Unlike the other masks I had tried before, this one does not feel snug or uncomfortable even after wearing it for a whole night. The elastic silk band isn’t adjustable but offers just the right amount of stretch that holds it in place without feeling too tight. It also doesn’t entangle in the hair, nor does it leave any mark on the face when you take it off in the morning.
The mask comes in one standard size (22mm X 8mm) and is available in two basic colours: pink and black. The brand claims the mask fits average to large faces (20 to 24 inches head circumference). I have a small face, and it fits me just fine with a little bit of room to spare.
The sleep mask is machine washable, which is definitely a plus. But being a delicate item, I would prefer to hand wash it in cold water with a mild detergent.
The Final Word
I’ve been using the mask for a little over two weeks now, and I can say that it is the best sleep mask I’ve ever tried. After using this, I can’t imagine going back to any other sleep mask.
In my opinion, it’s a penny well spent!
