Best Bed Sheets in Australia

Best bed sheets — Cotton, bamboo, linen, microfibre — the right sheets matter more than the thread count. Our team’s pick of the best bed sheets in Australia for every climate and budget.

Priya on our team has tested sheets across two summers and two winters in Sydney, Brisbane and Hobart. Climate matters more than people realise. Here’s the round-up that survived.

What actually matters in sheets (Best bed sheets)

  • Fibre. Cotton, linen, bamboo, TENCEL, microfibre. Bigger driver of comfort than thread count.
  • Weave. Percale (crisp), sateen (smooth), jersey (stretchy), flannelette (winter).
  • Thread count. Useful only within the same fibre and weave. 200 percale > 800 sateen for breathability.
  • Long-staple cotton. Egyptian, Pima or Australian long-staple cottons last twice as long as standard.

1. Sheridan 1000TC Egyptian Cotton — Best Cotton

1000-thread-count Egyptian cotton sateen. Soft from new, gets better. About $300 for a queen set. Lasts 8–10 years.

2. In Bed Linen — Best Linen

Australian brand, 100% French flax linen, stonewashed. Around $400 for a queen set. Cool in summer, warm in winter, gets softer for years.

3. Ettitude Bamboo Lyocell — Best Bamboo

Bamboo-derived lyocell, ridiculously soft, naturally cooling. About $230 for a queen set. The best summer-only sheet on the market.

4. Canningvale Vintage Softwash Cotton — Best Mid-Range

Softwashed cotton sateen, $130–$180 for a queen set. Good entry point.

5. Target Microfibre — Best Budget

Microfibre sheets, $50–$80. Will last 2–3 years tops, but warm in winter and cheap to replace.

6. Jasper Conran Linen Cotton Blend — Best Hybrid

40% linen / 60% cotton blend. Lightly textured, easier to iron than pure linen, cooler than pure cotton. About $300.

By climate

Climate Best fibre
Tropical (FNQ, Darwin) Bamboo or linen
Subtropical (Brisbane, northern NSW) Linen or percale cotton
Temperate (Sydney, Adelaide, Perth) Year-round long-staple cotton
Cool temperate (Melbourne, Hobart) Sateen cotton in summer, flannelette in winter

Care

Wash before first use (see why). Cold water for cotton and bamboo; warm for linen. Skip the fabric softener — it coats fibres and reduces breathability. See our broader bed sheets guide.
