About Brand
One Bed, an Australian company founded in 2015, has taken a different approach to the online-only mattress in a box than many of its competitors. It was awarded the Best Mattress in Australia for 2018 and 2019 (alongside legendary Koala).
You ask, what is this “different angle”? One bed offers three mattresses, each with a unique set of features and benefits. It’s hard to choose between them, which is why we are here to help. But you can be assured that Onebed offers dedicated after-purchase support that rivals and in some cases outmatches their myriad competitors.
Construction
OneBed Essential Review
This is a no-frills mattress, which does the job without the bells and whistles of other products. It’s what it is, whether you call it “basic”, “pure” or anything else. It is made of two layers of foam: on top, a cooling gel-infused memory foam layer and on the bottom, a high-density foam support layer. Do you expect more? We’re afraid you won’t be satisfied with this one.
OneBed Original Review
This Original mattress has three foam layers that can be swapped out and a removable covering. The top layer of the Original mattress is made up of a 1.5-inch Dunlop latex memory foam. is the middle layer, a 1.5-inch high-density viscoelastic foam. And the bottom layer, a 7-inch high-density support foam. It’s covered with a dimpled polyester cover.
You’re right! Do you want more? Are you looking for something that goes beyond foam? Check out the next thing.
OneBed X Review
The letter may not be a clue, but it does represent the most feature-packed Onebed mattress: four distinct layers of foam and a sea full of pocket springs all wrapped in high-quality materials.
The top layer is Davina foam, which is buoyant and breathable. Below that is a layer with cooling gel, and pressure relief memory foam. Next is a layer of charcoal foam, which is moisture-wicking and odour-removing. The viscose fabric is the final layer, which covers it all.
The car is luxurious, and comfortable and features many great features. It’s also made from high-quality materials. We want to experience more “X” in our life.
Feel, Comfort & Firmness
The Essential mattress is rated medium firm 6/10 on the mattress firmness rating scale. However, its simplicity and lack of weight-distribution features may make it less than ideal for heavier sleepers. The comfort and support layer does a great job at cradling your body and keeping it aligned.
The Original mattress is highly customizable, so it is impossible to lock in a specific feel. You’ll experience a different sleep depending on which foam layer you put on top. The Dunlop latex layer will give you a medium 6.5/10. Finally, the thicker polyurethane layer will give you a Firm 7.5/10. These layers are also responsible for a variety of other mattress characteristics, including temperature regulation, pressure relief, and overall responsiveness.
We now come to the X. This mattress is rated as a “medium” firmness (6/10) on the mattress firmness rating scale. However, there is more to this mattress than what meets the eye. The X mattress has layers that are very firm, but they are buried in the bottom of its 12-inch bed. The mattress can support your body, keep your spine and your joints aligned throughout the night and still remain soft, bouncy and comfy thanks to the top comfort layers. The pocket spring layer also helps to support weight distribution and aids in body alignment. The X mattress is best for those with chronic joint or back pain. While the other two mattresses offer body contouring and pressure relief, the 5-zone Pocket Spring Layer and pair of memory foam layers, as well as the firm foam base, make it the most effective in terms of pain relief.
We’re quick to remind you that the mattress firmness rating is not an accurate indicator of a mattress’ overall feel. You’ll only know what you think about a mattress if you try it for yourself. That’s why Onebed offers a generous 125-day risk-free trial in Australia.
Sleep position ratings
The Essential mattress is suitable for most sleepers. This includes back and side sleepers. Customers who are heavier or prefer to sleep on their backs may want something more generous about support and weight distribution.
The Original mattress is a great choice for anyone who sleeps on their back, front or side. The firm support will allow even heavier people to drift off peacefully. The configurations are so customizable, it is hard to imagine that anyone would struggle to find a solution.
The X mattress is a great choice for anyone who sleeps on their side, front or back. It also provides a firm surface with a soft feel.
Temperature Neutrality
Any bed made in Australia must be able to keep the user cool. If you live in Australia, a bed with temperature-regulating features could be your only hope of avoiding sleepless nights during the scorching summer months. Onebed’s products could have failed because they had dominant layers of memory foam (a material notorious for retaining heat). This is not the case. All of the products are temperature-neutral.
The Essential’s top layer is infused cooling gel. This process perfectly reduces the heat retention effects of memory foam, while maintaining its body-cradling properties.
The Original mattress is different. It offers a naturally cooled layer instead of a cooling gel.
The X reintroduces cooling gel-infused Memory Foam, but that’s not all! Davina foam is added to the memory foam for a naturally breathable finish. Remember that charcoal memory foam mentioned earlier? Talk about going beyond. This mattress has moisture-wicking and temperature-regulating capabilities, as well as odour-removing abilities. Wait… there’s more? Yep! The X promotes airflow due to its natural spacing between pocket springs. This helps support the cooling efforts of the other layers. The X is the best cooling mattress out there!
Edge Support
Edge support can be overlooked but is a feature that many people appreciate, especially those who have trouble getting out of bed or who enjoy sitting at the edge of their mattresses. Edge support is a feature that many people overlook, but it can be a great asset for those who struggle to get out of bed or even just enjoy sitting on the edge of their mattress.
The X offers superior edge support thanks to the high-density foam base that tries to mimic the feel of steel gauge coils (although it doesn’t quite meet those high standards).
If you want the best edge support possible, look for a mattress that has steel gauge coils all around. The X is the best of these three.
Motion Isolation
Have a partner who is constantly fidgety? Maybe you are the one that keeps your partner awake and frustrated. You’ll both need a mattress that has outstanding motion-isolation features. The Australian heat can be unbearable, and you don’t want to spend the night awake because of a constantly shifting mattress.
Memory foam is the only material that can offer some motion isolation, but this is not enough to make the Essential mattress a good motion isolation mattress. These aren’t insignificant, granted, but they don’t compare to specifically designed motion isolation design.
The Original mattress is a combination of latex and foam that offers “zero-motion transfer” technology. These layers will pass the “Wine Glass Test”, and you and your partner will sleep soundly every night.
The X claims that it also passes the Wine Glass Test with ease, thanks to the Davina foam layer on top and the pocket spring layer. You’ll enjoy both the Original and X for motion isolation. The Essential, however, is not able to stop motion transfer.
Packaging
One bed is a brand that offers a mattress in a box. In a box, of course! You simply unbox the product, remove the plastic wrap and allow it to unfold on its own. The product can be used right away, but it may take 5 days for the entire decompression process to complete.
Free shipping to Australia and “fast” delivery are offered by the company.

Final Verdict
One bed offers three different mattress options, each with its unique features, such as simplicity, customization, and luxury. The essential mattress, while inferior to the other two, is still a great product that’s well worth the money. You can spend a little more money and get two mattresses that will keep you cool, comfortable, and unbothered. The Original offers the best customizability while the Luxury Hybrid Mattress boasts high-quality materials.
You’ll need to consider your personal preferences, budget, and comfort needs. We’re confident you’ll love whichever you choose!
